This combined walking and building tour explores the remarkable story behind Manchester's LGBT+ Centre, from the political campaigns and community activism that made it possible to the award-winning building that serves the community today.


We begin with a heritage walking tour through the city centre, tracing the political, economic and social history that led Manchester to become one of the first cities in Europe to develop a publicly funded, purpose-built centre for the LGBT+ community. Following the journey from the Town Hall through Canal Street and onwards to Sidney Street, we will explore the partnerships, campaigns and community action that transformed an ambitious idea into a lasting reality.


The story is one of determination and resilience in the face of public funding challenges, political opposition and changing attitudes. Along the way, we will uncover how local communities, activists and public bodies worked together over several decades to create a permanent…
